The piece showed here is NOT a commercial release but only an evaluation sample obtained as a final result of a 3D rapid prototyping process driven by a computer program. There are no copies of it out there more the ones showed here and solely used for testing purpose. Absolutely nothing has been released in any form, this is NOT a garage kit.

I only took part into the production process with the final resin casting of the original prototype. I do not have the required skill to produce those kind of prototypes, all the hard work has been made by Atalaya Miniatures, a spanish factory.

The subject used for this prototype has been carefully choosed to check the possibilities offered by this type of rendering. It is a complex enough subject with a lot of fine details on the armour and some very thin items like the helmet decoration and the sword. The scale used to render the subject was a true challenge (the figure only stands 10 cm, less than 4" tall).

Basically the 3D rapid prototyping process consists in rendering through a 3D printer an high density polygonal 3D model previously draw with a computer program (up to 4 millions for this one, up to 8 millions of polygons for some other kind of models). The master copy obtained that way is subsequently used to make the silicone mold to reproduce the piece (in polyurethane resin in this case). Note that the metal master copy shown here has not been made using a standard milling machine. It is obvious that using the 3D rapid prototyping process the computer generated model can be reproduced in almost any scale.
